Basketball Recap: Wellington-Napoleon Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wellington-Napoleon can now relate to. They received a blow on Saturday as they fell 52-37 to the Santa Fe Chiefs. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Chiefs are ranked 161st).

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cali Russell, who posted ten points and seven rebounds. Russell is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 43% in the last three games she's played.

Emma Michael was her usual excellent self, going 7-for-16 en route to 23 points along with eight boards and seven steals for Santa Fe. That's the most steals Michael has posted since back in December of 2024. Addison Mullins was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Wellington-Napoleon's loss dropped their record down to 7-21. As for Santa Fe, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.

Wellington-Napoleon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Santa Fe, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-37 victory against Gilman City/North Daviess on the 4th.
