Baseball Recap: Pershing County Takes a Loss

Pershing County had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-14 to make it 12. They lost 9-2 to the Battle Mountain Longhorns. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Longhorns apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Pershing County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Reitz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Battle Mountain, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory they have posted against Pershing County since April 25, 2023.

On Battle Mountain's side, Jacob Perrone was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over 5.1 innings pitched. Perrone also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Battle Mountain is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9 otherwise. Perrone was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Damian Solis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Lara, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Battle Mountain beat Pershing County by a score of 14-5 on Saturday.
