Softball Recap: Albemarle Comes Up Short

Albemarle extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-13. They came up short against the Orange County Fighting Hornets, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 back in April.

As for Orange County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Orange County's part, Kara Fincham and Faith Wilson made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Fincham didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Wilson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fincham has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Fincham went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Wilson went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Fincham a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Babcock, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Sydney Hearl, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
