Basketball Recap: Hardin Northern Comes Up Short

Hardin Northern suffered their closest loss since December 10, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the New Knoxville Rangers by a score of 52-50. The Polar Bears lost against the Rangers in their previous head to head back in February of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 54-20 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Hardin Northern lost, don't look at Alaina Thomas. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-13 on her way to 20 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Thomas continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Heidi Trachsel, who posted 17 points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Knoxville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brynn Egbert, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards. That's the most points Egbert has posted since back in December of 2024. Avery Albers was another key player, going 5-for-11 en route to 15 points and six rebounds.

Hardin Northern's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for New Knoxville, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-17 record this season.

Hardin Northern does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Knoxville, they will square off against Ottoville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ottoville will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something New Knoxville surely won't give up without a fight.
