Softball Recap: Hammond Tornadoes vs. Ponchatoula Green Wave
Hammond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. Their rough 19-0 defeat to the Ponchatoula Green Wave might stick with them for a while. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Hammond of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.
For Ponchatoula's part, Sydni Stanga made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Stanga has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Stanga was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Abby Dagro was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs. Rae'el Wheat was another key contributor, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Hammond's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Ponchatoula, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 22-7.
