Softball Recap: Downtown Magnets Suns vs. Central City Value Jaguars

Downtown Magnets had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it six. They came up short against the Central City Value Jaguars, falling 31-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Suns couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Central City Value, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3. That 29 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Central City Value's part, Mercedes Ponce made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ponce has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Central City Value got a massive performance out of Emily Fernandez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Fernandez has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Sophia Gallardo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs.
