IMG Academy came tearing into Thursday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Jesuit Tigers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in March.

Kyler Meccage made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one hit in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, IMG Academy got a great performance from Chase Bentley as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Bentley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Kelvyn Paulino was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Sean Gamble, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

IMG Academy's victory bumped their record up to 18-1. As for Jesuit, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.

IMG Academy and Jesuit should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Ascenders (ranked first) will meet Doral Academy (ranked 35th) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (IMG Academy 2.2, the Firebirds 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Jesuit will face off against Plant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (13 vs. 101).
