Basketball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville was the 71-37 winner over Cascade when they last played one another back in November of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Martinsville Artesians fell to the Cascade Cadets 61-56.

When it comes to explaining why Martinsville lost on Saturday, don't look at Jade Meade. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points and eight boards. Those 16 points gave Meade a new career-high. Ruby Murrell was another key player, putting up nine points.

Cascade's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Macey Pugh, who posted 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Austin, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 15 points.

Martinsville dropped their record down to 4-13 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Cascade, the victory snapped their losing streak at eight games and leaves them with a 8-10 record.

Martinsville will take on Brown County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martinsville is facing Brown County at the right time seeing as Brown County is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. Cascade has already played their next game (against Edgewood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
