Basketball Recap: Hallee Gorton Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Watersprings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grace Lutheran, Taylor's Crossing was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against Watersprings by a score of 33-22. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 33-22 victory Watersprings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Taylor's Crossing to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hallee Gorton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Reagan Smith, who posted four points and eight steals.

Despite the defeat, Watersprings saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caroline Combs earned eight points along with six boards and four steals. Combs has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bri Williams, who put up six points and 11 rebounds.

Taylor's Crossing is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Watersprings, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taylor's Crossing will square off against Leadore at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Taylor's Crossing: 27.7, Leadore: 26.9) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Watersprings, they will face off against Grace Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
