Foothill hasn't had much luck against De La Salle recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Falcons will face off against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Foothill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Benicia as they made off with a 10-4 win. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly six runs.
Landon Comerford was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. George Schmitt was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while De La Salle put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Petaluma. The Spartans put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 15-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
De La Salle also got a great performance from Roman Bartosh as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Antonio Castro was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Brandon Vargas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
De La Salle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Petaluma only managed one hit.
De La Salle's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Foothill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like De La Salle struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to De La Salle in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
