Softball Game Preview: Starkville Yellowjackets vs. Nanih Waiya Warriors

The Starkville Yellowjackets will square off against the Nanih Waiya Warriors at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Starkville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against South Pontotoc on Friday, falling 27-18. The Yellowjackets just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Alex Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Aly Foote was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three contests, Nanih Waiya finally came back down to earth on Friday. They lost 11-1 to West Point. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Nanih Waiya saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emmalena Cotton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Starkville's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Nanih Waiya, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Starkville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480.
