Basketball Recap: North Rockland Takes a Loss

North Rockland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elmira Express. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Raiders of the 80-58 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2018.

Elmira found their leader in sophomore Mariah Matias, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Matias has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Meya Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

North Rockland now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Elmira, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

North Rockland will be taking part in a tournament against Troy at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday. As for Elmira, they will take on Bishop Kearney in a tournament on Sunday. Bishop Kearney has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
