Softball Recap: Oneida Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sunbright

Oneida lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Sunbright, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Indians were the clear victors by a 25-1 margin over the Tigers on Tuesday. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Lillian Hailey and Jolie Duncan made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Hailey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Duncan tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hailey went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Duncan went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Duncan has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Oneida got a massive performance out of Kennedy Shoemaker, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Shoemaker has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Lee, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Oneida kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Oneida's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-16. As for Sunbright, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Oneida will welcome Wartburg Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sunbright, they will head out on the road to square off against Oakdale at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
