Basketball Recap: Maxwell Takes a Loss

Maxwell lost against Sandhills Valley back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Maxwell Wildcats took a 54-38 bruising from the Sandhills Valley Mavericks.

When it comes to explaining why Maxwell lost, don't look at Jesse Reyes. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cole Huffman, who posted six points along with five assists and five boards.

Leyton Connell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sandhills Valley, going 9 for 16 en route to 24 points and eight assists. The dominant performance gave Connell a new career-high in assists. Isaac Goosey was another key player, putting up nine points.

Maxwell has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Sandhills Valley, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Maxwell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-37 defeat against Wallace on the 25th. As for Sandhills Valley, they will face off against Brady at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandhills Valley is facing Brady at the right time seeing as Brady is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
