Volleyball Recap: Walton-Verona Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Scott, Walton-Verona was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Williamstown Demons. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

The 2-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Walton-Verona was: they took both sets by at least 15 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-6, 25-10.

Walton-Verona found their leader in freshman Olivia Simpkins, who had nine aces and three digs. Those nine aces set a new season-high mark for Simpkins. Kaylee Collett also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

Walton-Verona was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Walton-Verona now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Williamstown, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Walton-Verona has already played their next game, a 2-0 defeat against Trimble County on the 6th. As for Williamstown, they will head out on the road to challenge Calvary Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
