Football Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Costa Mesa's Winning Streak

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Costa Mesa can now relate to. They lost 43-17 to the Yucca Valley Trojans on Friday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Mustangs, who until this matchup were averaging 12.45 points allowed.

Costa Mesa lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Andrew Waiss, who picked up 205 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Matthew Barrientes, who threw for 205 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight passes.

Yucca Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clyde King, who rushed for 156 yards and two scores on only 13 carries, and also picked up 37 receiving yards. That's the most rushing touchdowns King has posted since back in September. Aiden Pope was in the mix too, providing Yucca Valley with three touchdowns.

The loss snapped Costa Mesa's winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 9-2 record. As for Yucca Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Costa Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Yucca Valley, they will face off against Grace at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
