Baseball Recap: Long Island City Comes Up Short

Long Island City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Flushing Red Devils. The game marked the first time this year in which the Bulldogs were not able to get on the board.

As for Flushing, their record now sits at 2-5. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Long Island City: they've now won six in a row.

For Flushing's part, Jeffrey Mentle Monico made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Mentle Monico was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Gary De Jesus was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Alex Encarnacion also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Coming up, Long Island City will challenge Bryant at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Flushing, they will square off against Edison Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
