Washburn came out on top against Hazen on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Cardinals have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Kya Kulzer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Bre Laning was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Neumiller, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Washburn now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hazen, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Coming up, Washburn will challenge Velva at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hazen, they will head out to challenge South Heart at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
