Canton had lost 13 games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 3-10 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Sayre Redskins with a sharp 13-3 victory. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Jaylee Ward made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 11 hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs.
In other batting news, Addi Pepper was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Charleigh Anderson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Canton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sayre only posted an OBP of .364.
As for Sayre, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly ten runs.
On Sayre's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Parrish, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Zoe Ward also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Looking ahead, Canton will square off against Cowanesque Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Sayre, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 16-5 loss against Sullivan County on the 23rd.
