Softball Preview: Watseka Warriors vs. South Newton Rebels

The Watseka Warriors are on the road again on Friday to play the South Newton Rebels at 4:30 p.m. The pair are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Watseka stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They never let Momence onto the board and left with a 12-0 victory.

Meanwhile, South Newton had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Frontier on Thursday as South Newton made off with a 16-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for South Newton considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Briley Iseminger was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Iseminger was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, South Newton got a massive performance out of Cora Groover, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh Burton, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Watseka has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for South Newton, their victory bumped their record up to 3-12.

Watseka took their win against South Newton in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Watseka since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
