Gatesville hadn't done well against China Spring recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hornets blew past the Cougars 27-7. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Gatesville had a senior duo take command as Gehrig Keeton threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes and Amos Phillips picked up 121 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Phillips was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 50 yards.

One reason for the win was Gatesville's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Greyson Eggeling was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. Gatesville got some further help from Larry Schwertner: he forced one fumble and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Gatesville's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.3 points on average over those games. As for China Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Gatesville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-14 defeat against Robinson on the 31st. As for China Spring, they have also already played their next game, a 49-47 victory against Lorena on the 31st.
