Basketball Recap: Taft Raiders vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS
Taft was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Sotomayor WILDCATS, falling 71-42. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 767th, while the WILDCATS are ranked 235th).
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chasen Wilkerson, who posted four points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Williams, who put up ten points.
Even though they lost, Taft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sotomayor only pulled down nine offensive boards.
Jasiah Saunders continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sotomayor, going 13 of 20 on his way to 30 points and three steals. Those 30 points gave Saunders a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Berry, who had nine points.
Taft's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Sotomayor, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Taft didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-37 defeat against Harlan on the 3rd. As for Sotomayor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-42 victory against Warren on the 3rd.
