Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Newburgh Free Academy

Newburgh Free Academy hadn't done well against Middletown recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Goldbacks walked away with a 7-3 win over the Middie Bears. Winning may never get old, but the Goldbacks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Ryan Keller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Newburgh Free Academy let Parker Mullarkey and Ashlyn LeClair run wild. Mullarkey went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while LeClair went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave LeClair a new career-high. Camryn LeClair also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Newburgh Free Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Newburgh Free Academy now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Middletown, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

Coming up, Newburgh Free Academy will venture away from home to challenge Monroe-Woodbury at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Goldbacks are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Middletown, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cornwall Central at 2:00 p.m.
