Softball Recap: Vernonia Loggers vs. Gaston Greyhounds
Vernonia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against the Gaston Greyhounds, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Greyhounds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-7 on Tuesday.
Chloe Schumburg made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Julia Busch, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Vernonia's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Gaston, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernonia will venture away from home to take on Santiam at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolverines have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.92 runs per game on average), something the Loggers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gaston, they will head out on the road to challenge Western Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
