Baseball Recap: Gateway Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Gateway took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Riverdale, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Raiders 4-3 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Hunter Squire spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jacob Hardman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Anthony Medina, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Gateway has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Riverdale, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.

Gateway will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Ida Baker at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Riverdale, they will be taking part in a tournament against Mariner at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
