League recap: Holcomb throws longest pass in league this season for Carlsbad

Rodney Holcomb and Dillion Caddell provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Alamogordo. The connection went for 86 yards, the longest such play in 5A District 4 this season.

Carlsbad took down the Tigers 38-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Holcomb threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 19 yards in the win.

The Cavemen's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Caddell chipped in 65 yards. Caddell helped Carlsbad's passing attack out by catching four balls for 100 yards.

Tyler Hyden was the best wideout in the league this week as Carlsbad topped Alamogordo. Hyden racked up five receptions for 104 yards.

Ron Arrington's team's Holcomb and Hyden have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holcomb has thrown for 552 yards this season, while Hyden, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 12 catches for 188 yards. Clovis's Kamal Cass leads the league in rushing yards with 422.

Hobbs led 5A District 4 in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Hobbs.
