Baseball Game Preview: Mountainburg Dragons vs. Alpena Leopards

The Mountainburg Dragons are taking a road trip to square off against the Alpena Leopards at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mountainburg has three straight wins, Alpena has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mountainburg proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 17) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Providence Academy, sneaking past 12-11.

Ryan Allen made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryson Quinalty, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Alpena's offense. They came up short against Cotter last Tuesday, falling 10-0.

Mountainburg pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Alpena, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
