Baseball Recap: Montgomery Starts Season with Victory Against Sugar Valley Rural

Montgomery gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Sugar Valley Rural Phoenix with a sharp 15-0 win. The Red Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Phoenix, too.

Parker Bennett and Briar Persing made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bennett pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Persing struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At bat, Bennett scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Persing scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Persing has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Parker Persing was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Roman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
