Baseball Game Preview: Mater Dei Monarchs vs. Fountain Valley Barons

The Mater Dei Monarchs will square off against the Fountain Valley Barons at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mater Dei comes in on five and Fountain Valley on three.

Mater Dei is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Foothill a 2-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Monarchs have won by exactly two runs.

Meanwhile, Fountain Valley earned a 5-2 win over Torrance on Friday.

Fountain Valley got a great performance from Logan Hunt as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Fountain Valley saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Grack, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Grack is becoming a predictor of the Barons' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 12-13 when he doesn't).

Fountain Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.

Fountain Valley's victory bumped their record up to 18-13. As for Mater Dei, their win bumped their record up to an identical 18-13.
