Baseball Recap: Mingo Central Comes Up Short

Mingo Central had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-15 to make it 14. They came up short against the Mount View Golden Knights, falling 9-2. If the Miners were looking for revenge after losing 13-3 to the Golden Knights when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mingo Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keziah Joplin, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run. Dylan Mounts also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Mount View, their record is now 14-8. Considering they have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Mount View's side, Hunter Muncy made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. With that strong performance, Muncy is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kyrece Hughes and Jacob Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Hughes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Wright went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Mount View is 12-2 when Hughes posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Blane Sturgell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Mingo Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mount View, they will square off against Bluefield at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
