Baseball Recap: Augusta Panthers vs. Bath County Wildcats
Augusta had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-13 to make it nine. They lost 13-2 to the Bath County Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 4-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
As for Bath County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-10. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Bath County's part, Parker Cox made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Cox a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Bath County let Gage Thompson and Cooper Cox run wild. Thompson went 1-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Cox got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Bath County is 7-2 when Thompson posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Whisman, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Coming up, Augusta is taking a road trip to square off against Bracken County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bath County, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Raceland at 6:00 p.m. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
