Basketball Recap: Ukiah Takes a Loss

Ukiah lost against Piner back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Ukiah Wildcats fell 63-50 to the Piner Prospectors. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 769th, while the Prospectors are ranked 371st).

When it comes to explaining why Ukiah lost, don't look at Kaleo Olson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Olson has become a key player for Ukiah: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least ten boards, but 4-18 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dareon Dorsey, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ukiah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 23 consecutive games.

Ukiah's loss dropped their record down to 8-20. As for Piner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

As of now, neither Ukiah nor Piner have any future games scheduled.
