Baseball Game Preview: Newport Harbor Sailors vs. Huntington Beach Oilers

For the second straight game, Newport Harbor will face off against Huntington Beach. The Sailors will face off against the Oilers at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Newport Harbor has won four straight at home, while Huntington Beach won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

Newport Harbor is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Huntington Beach just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Oilers by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Sailors have suffered since April 17, 2024.

For Huntington Beach's part, they got a great performance from Otto Espinoza as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Huntington Beach saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jared Grindlinger, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Grindlinger a new career-high.

Huntington Beach has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season. As for Newport Harbor, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.
