Baseball Recap: Masuk Gets the Win

The matchup between Masuk and Newtown on Wednesday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Panthers came out on top against the Nighthawks by a score of 12-9. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Nighthawks: they've now won three in a row.

Austin Patti made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Steven Curtin and Jerson Perez did most of the damage at the plate: Curtin went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles, while Perez went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Curtin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Fonck, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Masuk's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Newtown, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Looking ahead, Masuk will challenge Bunnell at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Newtown, they will venture away from home to take on Bassick at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18 runs per game on average), something the Nighthawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
