The Centennial Baptist Mustangs will head out to challenge the Gem State Adventist Academy Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Centennial Baptist and eight for Gem State Adventist Academy.
On Thursday, Centennial Baptist didn't have quite enough to beat North Star and fell 3-2.
Centennial Baptist took North Star into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking six-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-9.
Despite the loss, Centennial Baptist saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Leilani Malepeai had nine kills, five aces, three digs, and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Katie Oostra, who had seven kills, three digs, three blocks, and two aces.
Meanwhile, Gem State Adventist Academy came up short against Victory Charter on Thursday, falling 3-0.
Gem State Adventist Academy took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-6, 25-14, 25-19.
Centennial Baptist's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Gem State Adventist Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Centennial Baptist was able to grind out a solid win over Gem State Adventist Academy in their previous matchup on September 9th, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
