Baseball Game Preview: Tucumcari Rattlers vs. Pecos Panthers

The Tucumcari Rattlers are taking a road trip to square off against the Pecos Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pecos took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Tucumcari, who comes in off a win.

Tucumcari was handed a eight-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Clayton 8-7.

Luis Archuleta made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tucumcari is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Archuleta was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Pat Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Tucumcari is 4-2 when Garcia posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Matt Gomez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pecos fell victim to Santa Rosa and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Lions. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Tucumcari's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Pecos, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.

Everything went Tucumcari's way against Pecos in their previous matchup on April 12th, as Tucumcari made off with a 15-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rattlers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
