Football Recap: Whitmire Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Whitmire had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it six. They were beaten by the Dixie Hornets 49-12. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Whitmire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kingston Green rushed for 114 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 47 receiving yards and one score. The Wolverines are 2-1 when Green posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 0-4 otherwise.

As for Dixie, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. That 37 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Dixie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brandon Nance led the charge by rushing for 132 yards and three TDs on only eight carries. Nance's longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Dallas Dotson was another major influence, as he rushed for 86 yards and ran in a TD.

Coming up, Whitmire will challenge Abbeville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Wolverines' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Dixie, they will take on Ware Shoals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
