Preview: Platteview Trojans vs. Holdrege Dusters
The Platteview Trojans and the Holdrege Dusters will round out the year against one another at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at. Platteview has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Even though Mount Michael Benedictine scored an imposing 58 points last Tuesday, Platteview still came out on top. Platteview snuck past Mount Michael Benedictine with a 64-58 win. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Platteview did.
It was another big night for Jaxon Adams, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The matchup was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Elijah Steele was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Holdrege suffered a tough 56-36 loss at the hands of Sidney last Thursday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Holdrege in their matchups with Sidney: they've now lost four in a row.
Garret Johnson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. He scored a full 36.1% of Holdrege's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Coy Swanson, who scored eight points.
Platteview's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Holdrege, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Platteview have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Holdrege, though, as they've been averaging only 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
