Basketball Recap: West Columbus Comes Up Short

West Columbus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a blow against the East Bladen Eagles, falling 59-8. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-3.

Iyana Lowery was West Columbus' leading scorer, having posted three points. Demya Powell held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

East Bladen's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was NeNe Ward, who made all 6 shots she took for 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Ward is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Laila Smith was another key player, going 5-for-6 en route to 12 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

West Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for East Bladen, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.

Coincidentally, West Columbus and East Bladen will both be playing Pender the next time they take the court. East Bladen will head out to face Pender at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while West Columbus will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
