Basketball Recap: Jay Takes a Loss

If Jay was feeling good fresh off their 66-16 takedown of L.E.A.D. Academy on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Jay Royals were outmatched by the Blountstown Tigers and fell 62-31. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while the Tigers are ranked 202nd).

Despite the loss, Jay had strong showings from Tanner Mandell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Bryson Morris, who posted ten points and three steals. Morris continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Blountstown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Curtis Ellis out in front who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points and three steals. Ellis is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Sercye, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points.

Jay has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Blountstown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Jay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-43 victory against Northside Methodist Academy on the 19th. As for Blountstown, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 49-28 win against Poplar Springs on the 19th.
