Basketball Game Preview: L.C. Bird Skyhawks vs. Monacan Chiefs

The L.C. Bird Skyhawks will take on the Monacan Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. L.C. Bird has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

L.C. Bird is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat Powhatan 75-44. The Skyhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 30 points or more this season.

L.C. Bird's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylie Kent, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Kent a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Sasha Hodge, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards.

L.C. Bird was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Monacan came up short against Manchester on Monday and fell 65-54. The Chiefs have struggled against the Lancers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

L.C. Bird has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points over those games. As for Monacan, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.

L.C. Bird didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Monacan in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 48-44 win. Does L.C. Bird have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monacan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
