Baseball Recap: Coventry Takes a Loss

Coventry extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Springfield Spartans. If the Comets were looking for revenge after losing 7-4 to the Spartans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Springfield, they moved to 2-13 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 18th.

For Springfield's part, Jaden Bracken made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Bracken has posted over his last four matchups. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Bracken wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was David Thurston, who went 1-for-3 with one run. That hit was Thurston's first of the season.

While Coventry had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
