Softball Recap: Owatonna's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Owatonna came into Thursday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the John Marshall Rockets 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-2 on April 14th.

Malia Schroht spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Kendra Bogen was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Leighton Nelson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Owatonna picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for John Marshall, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Owatonna and John Marshall could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Huskies (ranked 221st) will meet Mankato West (ranked 87th) at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, John Marshall will take on Mankato East at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (252 vs. 62).
