Basketball Game Preview: Iowa Park Hawks vs. Vernon Lions

Iowa Park and Vernon are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Iowa Park Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vernon Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Iowa Park has seven straight victories, Vernon has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Iowa Park will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Holliday, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Iowa Park walked away with a 58-51 win over Holliday on Friday. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly seven points.

Meanwhile, Vernon was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 34-33 to Bowie. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 694th, while the Jackrabbits are ranked 343rd).

Iowa Park has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. As for Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.

Everything went Iowa Park's way against Vernon when the teams last played back in January, as Iowa Park made off with a 67-42 victory. Will Iowa Park repeat their success, or does Vernon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
