Baseball Game Preview: Luray Bulldogs vs. Rappahannock County

The Luray Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on Rappahannock County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Luray will be strutting in after a win while Rappahannock County will be coming in after a loss.

Luray is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Stonewall Jackson on Thursday as they made off with a 12-2 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Landon Wood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nick Cubbage was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Guzy, who got on base in 11 of his 13 plate appearances with one RBI.

Luray was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Rappahannock County's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 4-0 to Strasburg.

Luray has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rappahannock County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.

Luray couldn't quite finish off Rappahannock County in their previous meeting back in April and fell 4-2. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
