Basketball Recap: Memorial Day Extends Winning Streak to Six

Memorial Day had won five straight games and Johnkeria Miles did her part to make it six on Saturday. The Memorial Day Matadors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Alleluia Community Angels 38-36 thanks in part to Miles, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 boards. Miles is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season.

Alleluia Community lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alley McBride, who posted 16 points. That was a full 44.4% of Alleluia Community's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Krementz, who earned 11 points.

Memorial Day's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Alleluia Community, they moved to 6-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

After both having extra time off, Memorial Day and Bridges Prep will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Memorial Day is facing Bridges Prep at the right time seeing as Bridges Prep is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Alleluia Community, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-35 win against Briarwood Academy on the 16th.
