Softball Recap: Holmes Drops Season-High Score on Sotomayor

Holmes scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Sotomayor WILDCATS by a score of 18-17. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the WILDCATS apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Hannah Melendez was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alison Silva, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Holmes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Holmes dropped their record down to 5-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Sotomayor, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Holmes will be playing at home against Harlan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Harlan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Sotomayor, they will venture away from home to take on Stevens at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sotomayor has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
