After a string of four wins, Portland's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils by a score of 5-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Highlanders of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Portland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That hit marked the first that Johnson got this season.

Portland's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Coginchaug Regional, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Portland will be playing in front of their home fans against Haddam-Killingworth at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coginchaug Regional, they will head out on the road to challenge Old Saybrook at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
