Softball Recap: Haywood's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Haywood hadn't done well against Bolivar Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Tomcats walked away with a 7-4 win over the Tigers. Winning may never get old, but the Tomcats sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Lillian Scott was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Averie Parnell was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Smoot, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Haywood pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bolivar Central, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Haywood will venture away from home to face off against Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bolivar Central, they will host Jackson North Side at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
