Football Recap: Avalon Comes Up Short

After flying high against Greenville Christian last Saturday, Avalon came back down to earth. The Eagles took a blow against the Milford Bulldogs on Friday, falling 94-62. The Eagles were up 24-6 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

When it comes to explaining why Avalon lost, don't look at Josh Novak. Despite the final result, he rushed for 317 yards and six scores while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 29 yards and one TD. Novak has been hot for a while, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last 17 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Peyton Scott, who picked up 92 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Having lost for the first time this season, Avalon fell to 6-1. As for Milford, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

Coming up, Avalon will face off against Klondike at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Milford, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Walnut Springs at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st.
